Agencies warned against illegal recruitment of OFWs for jobs in Malta

A high placement fee is being charged by the illegal agencies promising employment to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Malta.

In line with this warning, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (Polo) in Rome on Friday warned aspiring OFWs and the public against these illegal recruitment practices.

Philippine Labor Attache to Rome Haney Siclot said those looking to gain employment in Malta must be vigilant against unscrupulous individuals looking to recruit aspiring OFWs.

Siclot said that there was a need not to get victimized by “illegal recruiters” while many individuals are taking advantage of the high demand “by asking for high placement fees for illegitimate agencies.”

The job seekers have been advised to check with the Philippines Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) the validity of job orders and those interested have been asked to log on to the POEA website to check on the jobs that are available to them.

There are a number of employment opportunities available in Malta and there are currently 5,800 OFWs in the central Mediterranean state. Most work n the service sector including as cleaners and private carers and some as factory workers and professionals like accountants and engineers. (AW)
