76% ICU beds occupied amidst rise in COVID-19 cases in PH

As many as 76 percent of ICU beds in the Philippines remain occupied amid the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), as many as 76% of the 4,200 ICU beds in the country are in use while 77% of the 1,400 ICU beds in Metro Manila are being utilized.

Around 73% of the country’s 15,800 ward beds remain occupied while 73% of the 4,400 ward beds in Metro Manila are also in use.

The occupancy rate is considered high risk if it is more than 70% but less than 85%.

Earlier the Health experts urged on the DOH to look into its reporting system to check why there is a “disconnect” between their data and the situation on the ground. It came after the DOH admitted that there was a disconnect between its data and the situation last week.

As per the data, 56% of the total 3,400 mechanical ventilators in the country are being utilized while 61% of the 1,200 mechanical ventilators in Metro Manila remain occupied.

The Philippines registered an all-time high of 26,303 new COVID-19 cases that brought the nationwide tally to 2,206,021, of which 1,985,337 have recovered and 34,978 have died. (AW)
