The death toll on the devastating magnitude 7.8 quake that hit southern Turkey and northwestern Syria has breached the 4,300 mark.
The powerful quake destroyed structures in Turkey and in Syria which has been greatly affected by years of war.

In a Reuters report, the freezing winter weather added to the plight of the thousands left injured or homeless and hampering efforts to find survivors.
The February 6 quake was the country’s deadliest earthquake since a tremor of similar magnitude in 1999 which killed some 17,000.

More than 13,000 people were injured in Turkey from the quake.
“Everyone is putting their heart and soul into efforts although the winter season, cold weather and the earthquake happening during the night makes things more difficult,” Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said.
