Over 669,000 registered voters overseas would have their voting rights terminated since they chose not to take part in the two electoral processes.
COMELEC’s Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV) reveals that 669,527 registered voters will likely have their voting rights suspended for failing to participate in the 2019 and 2022 elections.
The biggest number of Filipinos were found in the Middle East and Africa with 377,139, followed by Asia and the Pacific with 129,535.
Additionally, 42,148 voters in Europe and 120,705 voters from North and Latin America will have their voting rights suspended.
“The list of overseas voters, whose registration records are due for deactivation, are subject to the special RERB hearing,” read COMELEC’s notice on its website.
According to the Overseas Voting Act of 2013, anyone whose voting records indicate they did not cast a ballot in two consecutive national elections may have their registration records deactivated.
In the meanwhile, the Comelec – OFOV said that the Resident Election Registration Board (RERB) will meet on Wednesday, October 12 to discuss the deactivation of these voters’ registration data.
Any interested person who wants to protest to the abovementioned list may do so in writing, according to the Comelec, written to the RERB of the OFOV.
Only national candidates, such as the president, vice president, senators, and party-list group, are chosen by foreign voters during elections.
Overseas voting occurs one month in advance for the Philippine Elections.
