Real-life ‘Squid Game’ to take place in Abu Dhabi but no one will die

From Green Light, Red Light to the Dalgona game, fans of the hit Netflix show ‘Squid Game’ can try their hand playing the children’s games in real life but without the prize and violence on Tuesday evening in Abu Dhabi.

Contestants will also don similar costumes as the show’s actors, while staff will wear the iconic pink outfits.

Nam Chan-woo, director of the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the UAE, told media reports that at least 338 people have already registered for the game so far.

“The games seem a bit brutal in the series to maximise the dramatic element. However, all the games in the show are popular ones played by Korean children from past to present,” Khaleej Times quoted Nam as saying.

“Just as K-Pop gained worldwide popularity through YouTube in the 2010s, I think platforms such as Netflix would be a channel for the global spread of Korean video content such as dramas and movies,” he added.

More than 300 hopefuls applied, but only two groups of 15 participants each will be able to compete.

The KCC hopes the event will inspire people in the UAE to learn more about Korean culture.

Squid Game is currently the most-watched Netflix series all over the world, according to the streaming platform.
